The problem and the solution
Many organizers treat sustainability, green energy, and sponsorship as an afterthought rather than putting it in the forefront. An extra recycling bin, reusable cups, and logo placement does not necessarily make you green or sustainable, or attribute value to an activation.
Working with other organizations as well as sponsors that strive for excellence in sustainability practices, NFE can help organizers reduce the amount of energy used and transition to renewable energy, and also better manage waste, logistics and transportation, staging and production, and maximize the value attributed to brand activations. All while reducing overall costs, and not only the carbon footprint of the event itself but the carbon footprint of each artist, staff member, volunteer, and attendee.

What materials are being used and reused, how food is managed and what is wasted, how sanitation is handled, how artists, staff, volunteers, and attendees get to and from the event, how equipment and supplies are transported, and whether the event is extracting from the natural environment or giving back to it.

NFE has not yet produced a large-scale event or festival, but has a wide network of people who have. Our current work involves research, public education, relationship-building and networking, pilot design, and measurement and metric implementation.
We will not produce impact reports until there is clear and viable evidence over time.

Richard “Saxe” Coulson founded Nuclear Fusion Events after spending years hosting and promoting nightlife events, attending and covering over 100 music and art festivals, and researching how both sustainability and sponsorship can work in unison.
The objective is not to treat sustainability and being more green as a slogan or an add-on. It is to embed it into the culture surrounding the events and festivals that millions of people around the world attend each year.
